Secondary Machinist

Department: Walker Products - Contract Labor
Location: Grand Junction, CO

SUMMARY:

Responsible for ensuring most cost effective and time efficient method for proper set-up, operation, and maintenance of the machines following work instructions and set-up procedures. Work with Production Leads to determine priorities of equipment for set-up. This position is responsible in assisting that scheduled customer commitments are met timely and within budgetary limitations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Set up and operate tools and equipment according to instructions, specifications, and standards.
  2. Control and adjust machine settings in accordance with production and print specifications.
  3. Prepares fixtures, conveyors, and feeding devices. Initiates startup of equipment and engages feeders / conveyor for continuous product flow.
  4. Observe each machine to verify quality performance.
  5. Verifies measuring instruments such as gauges, Micrometers, Calipers, etc. are in proper working order and within calibration compliance.
  6. Understands Blueprints, work orders, and other specifications to ensure the proper setup sequence is followed.
  7. Works with Quality and Management for first article setups and programs, adjusts and verifies setup / program to product specifications.
  8. Because of the changing nature of our business, this job description will inevitably change. The employee will, from time to time, be required to undertake other activities of a similar nature that fall within his/her capabilities as directed by management.
  9. $18.00-$20.00 DOE

EDUCATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School degree or equivalent
  2. Excellent communication skills
  3. Strong interpersonal skills
  4. Strong attention to detail, organization and follow-up skills
  5. Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under timely deadlines
  6. Good computer skills with proficiency in MS Word and Excel - Outlook, Internet
  7. Ability to lift 50 pounds and to push and pull a heavy load using a pallet jack
  8. Must be experienced working within shipping and tracking software for FedEx, UPS, USPS
  9. Must be able to learn and utilize other shipping platforms needed to ship packages

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working conditions are a machine shop with a cement floor. Temperatures are warm in the summer and cool in the winter. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work. May require lifting of up to 50 pounds.
